State & Local Grants fund over $7000 for Jennings County Historical Society essential needs
VERNON, Indiana - Two year-end grants will assist long-standing community historical non-profit, the Jennings County Historical Society, Our Heritage, Inc. with essential operational costs and replacing the outdated heating & cooling system inside the Vernon museum.
On October 1, 2020, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch announced 479 Hoosier organizations would receive funding through the Arts, Cultural & Destination Marketing Grant Program, one of which was the Jennings County Historical Society. The organization was awarded $4,815.86 to assist with facility operational costs through the end of 2020. These mission-critical funds will be used to cover salary & operational costs that will allow the Museum to remain open to the public and continue to inspire historical learning and preservation for Jennings County families. A second grant opportunity arose from the local level through the Jennings County Community Foundation 2020 Competitive Grant cycle funded by interest on endowed funds. These annual grants assist non-profits with a variety of requests. The Historical Society was awarded $2500 to pay for a much-needed replacement heating and cooling system for the North American House museum and Historical Society headquarters in downtown Vernon.
With these funds, the Jennings County Historical Society will continue to serve the residents of Jennings County and the Hoosier State by preserving important histories of our community and offering high quality educational programs and events. Notable annual events include the Sassafras Tea Festival & Civil War Living History event, Home & Gardens Tour, October Ghost Walk, and 4th Thursday Presentations.
